Counterfeit Kit November Reveal and Blog Hop

Happy November 1st and welcome to my stop on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge November Reveal and Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Susanne's facebook page - I'm sure you enjoyed seeing her fun take on this month's inspiration kit.

Since I'm one of the later stops in the hop, you already know that we are using the November 2016 "Emerson" kit from Citrus Twist Kits as our inspiration:

This kit is such a pretty mix of bright colors, neutrals, bold and classic patterns along with lots of embellishment types.  I immediately focused on the black and white floral peeking out next to that bright chevron paper.  I decided that I'd start with the first black and white patterned paper I found in my supplies and then build the rest of my kit around that, using the colors and patterns in the Emerson kit to guide my choices.  This decision ended up presenting me with quite a challenge and with a kit that is very different from the starting point.

The first black and white paper I discovered was this one from Dear Lizzy's Lovely Day Collection:

It definitely has a whimsical feel so I decided to just embrace that vibe and assemble a playful kit.  I have plenty of photos from my daughters' childhoods so I knew that I could put that type of kit to good use.  Here are the rest of my paper choices:

I stayed true to the Emerson kit when I added the small black and white print and the two yellow patterns.  Instead of the original kit's bright chevron, I included the colorful tree paper and the cloud paper.  I used a small blue tone-on-tone star print in place of the larger patterned blue paper in the inspiration kit and I changed the tan wood grain to a white wood grain.

My embellishments included a variety of labels, rubber shapes, two acrylic words and several foam word stickers, some puffy sequins and stars, a few wood veneer pieces and some stickers from Shimelle's True Stories Collection.  My complete kit, which I'm calling "A Touch of Whimsy" looks like this:

It's a bit different but the happy colors really appeal to me and I hope that I get a lot of use out of this kit!

So that's my take on the inspiration this month.  You'll want to visit Lynnette next and see the lovely kit she's sharing today - I'm sure she put together something very special.  Here's the complete list for the hop in case you missed a stop along the way:

  4. I'm thrilled that we both started with the black and white floral as the basis for our kits - and *still* ended up with kits that are so different. I love this soft, sweet kit and can't wait to see more of your projects!
